The basics: I'm 35, have been married to jarrellwoods for 15 years and counting, and work as a medical transcriptionist. While my day job helps pay the bills, I also consider writing (poetry and fiction of various types) my career. My poetry has been published in various small-press magazines and e-zines and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2001. My fiction has appeared in places like Strange Horizons, Black Static, and the anthology Bewere the Night. I also create art using traditional media.

Why 'Poetigress'? Well, my personality is decidedly feline, and in recent years I've started to feel a connection with the tiger in particular. That connection has been difficult to define, but although I use the tigress as a persona, I see the connection as something deeper, more of totem/guide than simply a persona or muse. In short, the username "Poetigress" combines what I feel are two of the most important aspects of myself.

Two things to keep in mind:

1. I reserve the right to delete comments, screen comments, freeze threads, etc. as necessary.
This is a personal journal, so I don't think it's unreasonable to have a little control over what appears here. If you can't disagree politely and/or you don't know when to stop, your words are going to be gone. This journal is a benevolent dictatorship, not a democracy. :P

2. Don't be offended if I don't friend you back right away. When I first created this LJ, I kept most everything public, so it didn't really matter who I friended. Now, though, as my entries have become more personal, I'm posting more friends-locked entries, so I have to be careful about who I allow in (since I don't care to complicate things by having to use various filters). I may very well add you as I get to know you. Or I may not. Either way, honestly, it's really not worth stressing over.

The online/artistic persona of Renee Carter Hall, Poetigress is a quadrupedal tigress who is still dextrous enough to hold a pen (or paintbrush) in her left paw. Sensitive, introspective, and reserved, she embodies the elusive power of all tigers.
Strengths: Creative, insightful, curious, organized.
Weaknesses: Combination of sensitivity, imagination, and perfectionism can cause problems. Other weaknesses include chocolate, red meat, Italian food, books, pens, and art supplies.
Special Skills: Creative writing, art (best with graphite and watercolor). Can make flawlessly al dente pasta, as well as a perfect cup of tea.
Weapons: Sharp claws and a sharper pen. Territorial and fierce when provoked, particularly when defending her mate or any cause she cares about.
Motto: "For me, writing is a way of living in an imperfect world without having to suffer in silence." -Barbara Kingsolver
